| First in, first out wishlist notifications
| Notifications of wishlist matches would be sent to users in the order that they wishlisted the book | [1] [2] |
| Automatic wishlist requests
| When a wishlisted book becomes available, a request would automatically be sent | [3] |
| Bank of BookMooch
| A bank for borrowing and lending BookMooch points. | [4] |
see Unofficial Bank of BookMooch
| Book image uploads
| Allow users to upload covers for hand-entered books | [5] | "Eventually... I'm very reluctant to add any manual labor requirements to BookMooch." -john, 13 Feb 2007
| List multiple copies of same book
| Provide field on inventory screen to indicate multiple copies available from same user. | [6] | |
| Encourage other media types
| Help people share CDs, movies, DVDs, records, tapes, everything! |
| Wishlist any available edition
| Allow user to request wishlist notifications when any edition of a book is listed | [7] [8] [9] | "BookMooch now can look up related editions, using data from thingISBN, and OCLC's xISBN... For the time being, I'm not having email notifications take related editions into account, because the related edition info doesn't seem reliable enough for that." -john, 1 Mar 2007
| Access random books
| List a random selection of books within a given topical area, "sort of the same feeling as browsing in a used book store." | [10] |
| Wish notes
| The inventory has condition notes. We could do with a similar field in the wishlist and save for later list. | [11] |
| Resolve conflict of Wishlist + Ask if not in my country.
| This is a problematical part of the human aspect of the site. See the discussion forum item for a brainstorm of some ideas. | [12] |
| Mailing label
| Make a printable mailing label available for the sender that has the proper address and return address. | |
| Copy email back to the sender
| Make a checkbox (and a selectable default) so emails sent through BookMooch can be copied to the sender's email address. This allows the sender to see the entire conversation history, instead of having to remember parts of it. | |
| Require condition notes
| Require that "condition notes" are included in listing a book, rather than having it be a later option. This could be implemented with drop-down options and a field for owner comments. | |
| ZIP+4 fields
| Have a field for new registrants to provide the "+4" part of their Zip Code, and "seasoned" moochers could update their profiles with the same information. Helps speed up shipping. | |
| Inventory Removal
| In the book details pages, include a "Remove From My Inventory" button next to the line that shows that the book is in your own inventory. | |
| Auctions
| Allow moochers to name the price that they're willing to spend on books (possibly more or less than one point). | [13] | |
| Incentivize Charitable Giving
| Make an appropriate change to provide a greater incentive, or to reduce current disincentive, for members to donate points to bona fide charities. It seems the most appropriate way to effect this would be through a change in the book-mooch ratio, so that a charitable donation of points does not increase one's mooch ratio. | |
| Group Books As A Single Item
| It should be possible to check off a bunch of books from the search list and add them all as a group to the wishlist, such that if any of the books in the group is mooched, all are removed from the wishlist, and the group as a whole can be expanded or collapsed to remove the entire group or individual books in it. The group could simply be named after the first book in the list of books it contains when collapsed. This would be an effective way of tackling the issue of having to manage all the different printings and editions of a book separately on the wishlist, when you couldn't care less which one you mooch. | |
| Let Users Select Which Countries They will Send to
| Give the user an option on the profile to select which countries they are willing to send to. This would help stop lots of emails and requests bouncing about for books that are never going to get sent. | |
| Only Available Books Offered on Wishlist
| Make the wishlist only offer books that are available. ie If the book becomes available but the person doesn't send to my country, then don't offer it to me. | |
| Only Available Books on the Search
| Make the search only show books that are available (ie greater than zero copies) and only show me copies that the users are willing to send to my country. I don't really need to know that there are are loads of copies that people aren't willing to send to me, it's just annoying. Also, please remove "reserved" books for the same reason. | |
| Multiple book search in same inventory
| When mooching multiple books in the same series, or multiple books in general, would be nice to be able to search for "find these books from a bm member that has both(all) of them." to optimize shipping for the sender. | |
| Quick add all books sent or received to LibraryThing
| Support to download list of all books in inventory sent or received in bulk to LibraryThing. | |
| Individual status pages
| Show ONLY the "to send" books, or ONLY the "been shipped, not here yet", etc. | |
| Streamlined status page
| Show the current information, but in a condensed form useful for checklisting as you take books off shelf in your library, and for easy cutting out of addresses to tape onto package for shipping. Or "Show Less Detail" option like you have the "Show Details" option now. | |

| Separate transaction history
| View a user's transaction history in multiple categories - books given, books received, requests rejected, requests cancelled | [14] [15] | "Agreed, the history page is due for a revamp" -john, 7 Feb 2007
| Additional relationship info
| Include additional relational information such as "this member mooched from you" and "this member canceled on you" on member pages | [16] |
| Filter search results
| It would be nice to filter the output from an Amazon search, allowing you to narrow down the search to a specific publisher, binding, pub date range. This would be really useful when searching for a classic book, especially when looking to add a pre-ISBN edition. | [17] |
| Move condition note entry to before adding a book to inventory
| High-demand books may get mooched before the owner has a chance to put condition notes for the book. Allowing condition notes to be added as the book is being entered rather than after will solve this problem. Additionally, this system would encourage more members to add condition notes while still keeping the process optional. It would also serve as a "check" or confirmation screen and reduce instances of members accidentally adding books to their inventories (as opposed to wishlists). | |
| Separate "Add Book to Wishlist" and "Add Book to Inventory" buttons.
| Many people (especially new users) are inadvertently clicking the "Add Book to Inventory" button rather than "Add Book to Wishlist" and when they realize the mistake, they quickly remove it from their inventory. This causes lots of headaches for people who receive emails saying their book is available, and seconds later it is gone. Possible solutions include separating the buttons, color coding them, or a confirmation screen. | [18] |
| Remove "Add" tab
| It is not clear if the "Add" tab is for adding to inventory or wishlist until you click on it. Why not get rid of it and move the Add button from the bottom of the inventory page to the top? | |
| Add a "Save For Later" tab
| It is not logical to have to go to your Wish List or member's Home to get to your Save For Later list when there's a tab for the Wish List. | |
| Relabel the button for this wiki as "Help/FAQ"
| Some people don't know what a "wiki" is...And even if they do, that does not imply what the wiki contains. Calling it wiki is a little like calling the inventory page "perl" (if that's what you had used to program it.) | |
| Add delay comments on pending page
| If the moochee provided a "delayed" response to a mooch and provided comments on the form as to the reason for the delay, record those comments on the pending page, so it is easier to remember that there's a reason the mooch hasn't arrived. | |
| Put a link to the "member home" section in every notification email
| If someone smooches you, you'll want to log in and use the point right? Without having to type anything? Just click on the link right there on the email? Yep. | |
