Unofficial Bank of BookMooch
From MoochWiki
Mooch points, mooch books.
Unofficial BoB is here to lend people points so that they can get a book that they really want. This will then make more points available to more people and help keep books moving.

How-Tos
How to Get a Loan
Drop on by the Unofficial BoB website and click the "request a loan" link. Enter your userid and how many points you want. At this time you may have at most three points on loan at once. (Most people don't need more than two.) Please repay your loan as soon as possible so that other people can borrow points.
How to Repay Your Loan
Send points to this account, unofficialbob, using the charity page. The Unofficial BoB web page will automatically update your status (this may take several hours).
How to Make a Donation
Thanks to the generous support of many members, qw have enough points to last for a long time, so I'm not currently asking for donations. You may want to give any extra points to a charity.
Public Records
Loans and donations can be viewed at http://www.apejet.org/sites/ubob/index.php.
Transaction details are available in the Charity Log.
Questions and Answers
How many points may I borrow?
Currently, you may only borrow up to three (3) points at a time. This "credit limit" may change as needed.
How long does it take to get points?
With the newly automated system, you'll get your points instantly.
What if the bank runs out of points?
The bank now runs on donations. If we run out of points, loans will no longer be made available (until other loans are repaid, or someone makes a donation).
How can I spread the word about BoB?
- Add a link from your bio page to BoB's bio page (link above).
- Find people that want your books but don't have enough points, and tell them about the bank. You might want to check the public records to make sure that they don't have a loan already.
- Befriend Unofficial BoB so that other people can find it from your friends page.
What's the history of BoB?
Aaron McBride proposed the idea for a bank in April 2007. In October 2007, he decided to test out an unofficial bank and Unofficial BoB was born.
Originally, the bank was set up to handle deposits and withdrawals, but as soon as it became clear that loans could be funded purely by donations and loan repayments, the system was simplified to be loan centric. For over a year, the bank operated as a manual system (first with tracking data stored in an online spreadsheet, then in a database). In February 2009, Aaron created a fully automated version so that people could take out and repay loans quickly and easily.
